Camera obscura-Work
1967-1974

The work group "Pinhole Structures" was created 1967-1973 as a contribution of an image-given photography on a systematic, constructive basis. The series includes 154 pictures in different sizes from 24 x 24 to 100 x 100 cm. 46 pictures are unique prints, other are enlargements or copies from a photo negative.

The Pinhole Structures was presented first in the exhibition "Generative Photography", Bielefeld Art Museum, 1968. The exhibition shows also works of the German artist Kilian Breier and Hein Gravenhorst and the Belgian Pierre Cordeir, accompanied by a folder with a text of Herbert W. Franke entiteled "Ästhetik als soziale Aufgabe" (Aesthetic as a social assignment). The picture "3.8.14 A, 1967" is a key work of the work group. It marks the start of the art form of Generative Photography, and it is a basic motif for numerous following works.
